Structural Orthodontic Treatment

The purpose of structural orthodontic treatment is to move your natural teeth into better positions, thus improving the health and stability of your smile. While Invisalign treatment undoubtedly delivers aesthetic benefits, it is also important to understand how this type of care also improves dental functioning.

Common Applications

There are many situations in which our team may recommend orthodontic treatment. If, for example, you are living with an overbite, underbite, or crossbite, Invisalign can be used to bring your bite back into alignment. Ultimately, structural orthodontic care refines how your bite functions, and helps to prevent damage to your temporomandibular joint. When your bite surfaces are properly aligned, you are also less likely to deal with prematurely thinning enamel.

Considerations

Before we embark on Invisalign treatment our dental team will make sure that your smile is healthy enough for orthodontic care. You may, for example, have existing cavities or dental infections that should be treated prior to Invisalign. Additionally, if we are going to restore or rebuild any damaged teeth, it is better for us to do this before your Invisalign aligners are made to fit your smile.

As always, our Mill Valley Invisalign dentists are here to answer any questions that you may have, and to help you make the right decisions for your smile. Give us a call; we look forward to speaking with you!
