When you come in what will happen?
Our dental team does a number of different things during semi-annual appointments:
- We’ll take a look at your teeth and oral tissues and check for signs of infection
It can be tough for patients to identify signs of infection at home on their own—both because these spots can be in hard-to-see spots, and because they can develop asymptomatically for a time. Our dental team is able to spot these issues before they become too serious.
- We’ll thoroughly clean your mouth
One of the most important things that we will do is to clear away plaque that has calcified to your teeth—this is called tartar. We will give your smile a clean slate, which you will then work to maintain in between appointments.
- We’ll complete an oral cancer screening
In the same way that we look for diseased tissues, we will scan your mouth for anomalous tissues. As you would imagine, oral cancers caught early are easier, less expensive, and less invasive to treat—so this is the goal!
- We’ll talk to you about your at-home oral hygiene routine
During your appointment, we can collaborate to make sure that you are getting the most out of your daily oral hygiene routine. We’re here to recommend new products, different tools, and schedule changes when it comes to brushing/rinsing.
