In our Mill Valley dental office, we are constantly working to improve the treatments and technologies we utilize. One state-of-the-art technology that has made restorative dental treatment more convenient and stress-free than ever before is CEREC crown technology. In this short article, our CEREC dentist is answering commonly asked questions about this treatment. We hope that this information helps you understand the restorative treatments that are available.
Q: What does CEREC mean?
A: CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. This acronym describes the basic principle of CEREC treatment; CEREC technology allows our dental team to craft dental restorations right here in our office (or chairside). Traditionally-made restorations are created in an off-site lab and then shipped back to the dentist’s office for placement.
Q: What are the advantages of using CEREC crowns?
A: The primary benefit for patients is that you can completely restore your smile in just one dental appointment. Since, historically, crowns have been created in off-site labs, the patient had to wait for a week or more between the time she first came in and the time her final restoration was placed. CEREC treatment makes this waiting period a thing of the past; you will not need to wear a temporary crown at all.
Another advantage of using CEREC is that our team is able to refine and re-fit your restoration during your first appointment. This helps to ensure that you end up with a dental restoration that looks and feels natural, and that honors the underlying structure of your smile.
Our Mill Valley CEREC dentists are here to give you any additional information that you may need about restorative dentistry in general, and CEREC treatment specifically. We are here to help you achieve the strong and healthy smile that you need to smile confidently.
